Handbook for the Sellouts

Returning again for another romp through rant central.  Today's ornery oration is inspired by my latest ear candy obsession; Linkin Park's "Waiting for the End" from their new album A Thousand Suns. 

So what about this amusing tune would prove to be deathly?  Nothing.  It's the reactions I've seen w/in the itunes and amazon communities that leads me to believe that people are not happy w/progress. "Janxrod" from itunes says, "This band(Linkin Park) literally changed my life w/their music (and no, I'm not exaggerating)... The band that once inspired me, and was the first to get me into music is gone.  I'm just going to pretend this album never existed and anything else LP makes like it.  So, it's official: Linkin Park has sold out."

Wait.  You mean to tell me, Janxrod, that you feel an album featuring a blend of old flavor and new styles of music not fully explored before by this group is selling out?  I would venture to say that Linkin Park sold out back when they released their 2nd album Reanimation whose track-list was entirely REMIXES! of published tunes, and shelved songs previously unreleased.  I don't know about you, but tweaking/repackaging old content vs. producing new material outside of the expected range/cannon of an artist; you tell me where selling out begins and ends Janxrod.  Eh, you probably know best I guess. 

My final 2¢:
Rather than settling to produce tepid mainstream schlock true artists innovate or reinvent what made them land well on successes surface.  Previously not a fan of Linkin Park's cannon of work, nor having any interest in them I say.  Great job.  The tracks I've listened to on the album sound well crafted, not produced in excess to mask shoddy orchestration.

What doesn't Kill us...

Yes the old addage will launch us into this newest post of the Corndog Coronary.  So what won't kill me will keep me healthy, wealthy, and wise.  Right? 

Today I'll pull away from rants against the sexy dangers of advertised American life to focus on what's keeping me sustained and very happy at the moment.  I HAVE A HOUSE!


Well, I'm hiding away in the caverns of one like outlaw Jesse James on the lamb from the Pinkertons,  err... I'm squatting Randy Quaid style in a domestic fortress I'm going to make my own.  Alright... I'm just house sitting in Hollywood. 

Already I've lost my mind over trying to use the TV/Stereo/Cable/Mac/DVD situation, done laundry (SANS QUARTERS!), slept a full cycle in a sleep number bed (70), taken a 14 minute shower, made multiple kettles of tea, and fed the 7 effing cats dinner and breakfast.

Seriously though.  I woke up and the door to the back yard was eclipsed by a bunch of needy feline faces this morning waiting for me to get off my ass and dump meow mix in their 4 bowls.  Chairman Meow was not impressed by my waking at 9 am today.  I guess he's an early riser. 

I really like the house.  I think I'd like to throw a house warming party next weekend.  I mean... how many 26 year old un-married men in Hollywood can do that?  ;-) 

Listening: "Deadbeat Holiday" from Green Day's last great album Warning.  I listen to this song like it was still '00 and we survived Y2k.  I was a sophomore in High School enjoying life on Belleville East's campus.  Staying late nights for rehearsals of Clue in which I played Wadsworth.  I can still butle up a mean line or two from that show. 

Watching: Jim Carey.  He's as Manic as ever.  Check out his appearance on Letterman from last night.  CRay CrAy.  I think I watched network TV gnomes cleave his soul in half with rusty shrapnel clubs during the interview about his new Gay-scapade film w/McGregor I Love You Phillip Morris . 

Eating: No meat.  A lot of black tea actually.  It's overcast and chilly in Hollywood so it feels great to write and sip this crap.

Vegetarian

Yeah, leave it to the recent veggie-head to start a blog w/a disgustingly delicious processed meat product in the title.  Like a ghost of a past life come back to haunt.  Effing corndogs.  I used to down them like crazy when I first moved to L.A. because we didn't have Wienerschnitzle in IL, and to get a decent corndog you'd have to show up at whatever random carnival or state fair rolled into town.  Or bate your appetite w/some frozen crap out of a box. 

Now I don't eat meat.  And I don't eat corndogs.  i also don't eat that other shit they parade around as "meat" over at taco bell.  I swore off fast foods.  Mid-September I stopped eating the stuff that I was pretty sure was making me unhealthy and unhappy.  I feel like I must sound like every other Southern Californian moron who works in the industry, but I'm an adult now.  I don't have the same nutritional needs that I did even just 4 years ago.  I don' t need to eat a viking's ration off a cow anymore, and I sure as hell shouldn't be.  I also shouldn't eat anything from Taco Hell, KFC, Pizza Butt, McDonalds, Wendy's, Chick-fil-A, Burger King, you get it.  I miss it, but guess WHAT?  Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles aren't good for anybody either.  It's tongue drugs... That's all!

Day 1

The jumble mush that usually dumps outta my skull is on papers all around my apt room.  Usesless piles of rhymes, ideas, bullcrap.  Starting today that's all gonna change!  Now I'm puttin' em on the interwebs.

This morning I started writing a song about "not wanting to move to Silverlake".  I'm super happy w/the melody and am trying to integrate the lyrics.  We'll see where this pile of shiz ends up.  

Words w/Friends.  I'm addicted to it.  But Fucking words that aren't even words are scoring between 90 and a BaGillion points!  What the eff?  Even I've been able to drop words like: resid, goony, biff, thoric.  But then got Pummeled by the likes of Qi, Qat, and Sheqel.  WTF??!  Sheqel, let's check out that definition real quick.

Sheqel: also shekel.  A monetary unit of Israel equal to 100 agorot: replaced the pound in 1980.  


...Oh.  Alternate Spellings!?  Ooooo Goosh golly gee.  Lame.  I know what a springalang shekel is! 

The calculated goal of this blog is to explore the areas of over-produced crap that pervades most facets of everyday American life.  Over time you'll read rants on topics ranging from food, music, fashion, entertainment.  Even grossly unpopular literature will be on my Chopping block.  I'll also definitely explore certain areas of my PERSONAL LIFE ;-) that have been previously UnMENTINOED, UnPublished, and UnButtoned!  Basically anything that would make my mother cry is potentially about to hit the inter-waves.  Ahhahhhahaha!
